The Marian Knights won their sixth straight game to improve to 17-3 on the season with a 71-53 victory over Michigan City yesterday. The Knights were led by Jaden Ivey, who scored 30 points, his seventh game this year of 30 or more. With his offensive effort, Jaden has scored 521 points this season, placing him in elite company with Demetrius Jackson, Jair Rodgers, and Devin Cannady as the only members of the Marian Basketball program to score 500-plus points in a season. The record for most points in a single season is 580, scored by Demetrius Jackson in 2011-12. With at least two games left in the season, the record is in Ivey’s sights. Jaden is also averaging 26.05 points per game. As it stands now, that would break Jackson’s record of 25.5 points her game during his Senior campaign in 2012-13. For Jaden’s career, he now sits 10th all-time with 879 points, just behind Jerome Calderone.
Last night’s win also improved the Knights to 10-0 at home this season and pushed their home winning streak to 17 wins. With one game at home remaining (Senior Knight against Washington on Friday), the boys can finish their fourth undefeated season at home in the last six years. Since Coach Robb Berger’s return to Marian in 2010-11, the Knights are an incredible 63-9 at home. Coach Berger also currently sits at 297 victories for his career, with 197 of those wins coming on the Marian sideline.
When Washington visits on Friday, Marian will honor four Seniors who have been a big part of winning 74 games in the last four years. Jake Bishop, Kyron King, Coley Quinn, and Chase Sumner wrap up their home careers with a share of the NIC crown on the line. A win over the Washington Panthers will give the Knights a 11-1 record in the Northern Indiana Conference, good for a split title with Penn and possibly Riley depending on their outcome with John Glenn.
Friday we will also honor the 1999 State Champion Hockey team at halftime. Please join us for what will be a terrific night.
