Knights News · Marian hosts Knox in Sectional Semi-Final

Last year at this time, Marian was set to travel to 9-1 Knox for a Sectional Semi-Final contest.  This year, circumstances have changed.  The Knox Redskins are still a formidable foe (7-3 record), but this time, the game will be played on Otolski Field where the Knights are 4-0 this season.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 Eastern Standard Time.

After beginning the  year 4-1, the Marian Knights suffered a three-game losing streak.  Since then, in wins over Washington and Fairfield, the offense has gotten back into gear (averaging 41.5 points per game in the last two contests) and the defense has been suffocating (allowing just one late touchdown last week to Fairfield).

In an up down Regular Season, Marian managed to win a share of the NIC-South Division with a 5-1 record and now has its sights set on a fourth consecutive Sectional.  In order to get to the championship game, the Knights will have beat a Knox team whose season they ended last year in this exact same week.  In that game, a 17-13 win for Marian, Michael Hemingway caught a touchdown pass, returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, and sealed the game with a late interception.  Hemingway has graduated, but as we can see from the recent offensive production, plenty of guys are ready to step up.  Malcom Anderson has found the end zone four times in the last two weeks.  Mikey Gibson has a touchdown in each of the last two games.  Mitchell Nagy has a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown to Kyrell Franklin.  Tyler DeBoe also added a rushing touchdown last week.

As the offense has found its form, the defense has been downright dominant the last two weeks.  Both Washington and Fairfield only got six first downs the entire game.  The Knight Defense held Washington to 86 total yards and Fairfield to 117.  More impressive might be the pass defense that has given up exactly 8 passing yards in the last two weeks.
